Person performs mystical “Sun Salutation” yoga stretching exercise on Morro Strand “Church of Kelp”
Person, performs mystical "Sun Salutation" yoga stretching exercise in profile in front of Morro Rock on Morro Strand State Beach, Morro Bay, CA, 07 Jan. 2009. The "Morro Strand Church of Kelp" claims many such individuals as members, where one finds meaningful connection with the unknown. Snapshot by Michael "Mike" L. I had originally captioned this image "Man" but in looking in the full-sized version, I believe this is a female.

Love the shot and the commentary Mike!!

You caught him in a nice comma shape. Nice contrast against the water.

Great lighting. I can’t help but think a lower perspective to get of his figure against the lighter reflected sand and water would get him to stand out more. It would also provide an even greater repetition in shape to Morro Rock.

Seen in my contacts’ photos. (?)

jimgoldstein At http://www.flickr.com/photos/mikebaird/3178757768/ you said "a lower perspective to get of his figure…" - that exactly the kind of critique that I love on Flickr - thank you for taking the time. He actually posed for several seconds so I did have the opportunity, not the thoughts! Best, mike [at} mikebaird d o t com.

Mike glad the feedback helps. Never settle for one take on a scene. Always experiment going high, low, to the side, horizontal format, portrait format, etc. Often the great shot is the one you never see initially until you move around or experiment with format.

Mike - did your subject know you were taking his picture?

I find that to be my greatest stumbling block when taking pictures out in public. Trying to be surreptitious while shooting what is very interesting - people doing their own thing.

Your description of "Morro Strand Church of Kelp" had me laughing! I’m a member of that sect, but my "Church of Kelp" is in the Pismo/Avila area.

See you at the next service, lol.

ajdury at http://www.flickr.com/photos/mikebaird/3178757768/ you asked "did your subject know you were taking his picture?" The subject did not see me, or if he did, gave no indication. Sometimes I’ll ask if I can photo someone or their family during say the next 30 minutes, and try to become invisible to get a non-posed relaxed captures.

Seen on your photo stream. (?)

Lovely work, beatiful soft pastel tones, and great forground interest!
